Agents can act through two kinds of connections:

* **Connected servers (MCP)** — official connections published by services themselves. Agents use these **first** when they cover the job.
* **Connected apps** — the same apps you use in Work Mode (Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, HubSpot and many more), for everything else.

## Add a server

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tap Connect">
    In the **Vault** tab under Connected servers.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste the server address">
    Use the address the service gives you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    Approve on the service's own sign-in page, or pick an API key you saved in the Vault (some services only allow keys).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verified">
    Aura checks the server really works — including a real read — before marking it **Connected**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Aura-managed servers

Some knowledge servers (such as **DeepWiki** and **Cloudflare Docs**) are marked **Aura managed**. They're always on and give Agents up-to-date technical documentation at no setup cost.

## Health checks

Connections are checked at the start of every run. If a server refuses the Agent's sign-in, the Agent pauses and tells you to reconnect instead of failing silently.

## Safety

Any server action that isn't read-only is treated as risky and follows your [trust and approval](/agents/trust) settings.
