> How Aura connects to your tools.

Aura connects in different ways depending on where you are:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Chat and Agents" icon="messages-square" href="/chat/work-mode">More than 1,500 apps through Work Mode — Gmail, Drive, Slack, calendars, CRMs and more. Many public sources need no sign-in.</Card>
  <Card title="AI Builder" icon="hammer" href="/build/ai-app-builder">Built-in features, your own API keys and MCP servers. The Builder doesn't use the 1,500+ chat apps.</Card>
</CardGroup>

## Connecting an app

</Frame>

Ask for a task that names the app. If the account isn't connected yet, use the connection card and sign in with **your own account**. Read the provider's permission request before granting access.

## Choose the right kind of connection

| Need | Use |
| - | - |
| Read or update your email, calendar, files, CRM or task board | Connected apps in Work Mode |
| Read a public website or research current facts | Public reading / search tools; often no account is needed |
| Click through a website or fill a form | [Browser Tool](/chat/browser-tool), enabled per chat |
| Add a capability to an app you are building | [Builder setup and keys](/builder/setup-keys), not your chat app connections |

## Account and permission boundaries

A connection authorizes the account you signed into, not every account at that provider. If you have several accounts, name the intended one in the request. Connecting Gmail does not automatically connect Outlook; adding an app does not grant access to another person's private files.

An expired connection, missing permission or provider outage can stop a task. Resolve the connection shown in the task before trying again; do not repeatedly request a send or edit without checking whether it already happened.

## Example workflows

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Email and calendar">
    “Read tomorrow's meetings and the related email threads. Prepare a briefing with attendees, decisions needed and source links. Do not send anything.”
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Documents and spreadsheets">
    “Read this spreadsheet, group revenue by month and create an Excel report. Save the finished report in the Finance folder.”
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Team collaboration">
    “Draft a Slack update from today's completed tasks. Show me the draft first; do not post it.”
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="CRM and task boards">
    “Find the open deals assigned to me and summarize the next actions. Do not change any records.”
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

<Warning>
  Capabilities vary by app and granted permissions. A familiar app name is not a promise that every action in that app is supported.
