# Compose and read receipts
> Write beautiful emails, let AI help, and know when they're opened.
## Writing a message
Press **New** to open the composer. It can be minimised or expanded to full screen.
* **Rich formatting** — fonts, sizes, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text colour, alignment, lists, indents, quotes and links
* **Cc/Bcc** and contact suggestions as you type
* **Attachments** with the paperclip
* **Save draft** to finish later
### Let AI write it
The AI row under the message helps you write:

| Make formal | Switches to a professional tone |
### Signatures
In **Settings → Signatures**, create one or more signatures with rich text or your own HTML. In **Composing**, choose whether your signature is added to new messages, replies and forwards.
## Read receipts
Turn on **Receipt** before you send and Aura tells you when the message is opened:
* The sent message shows when it was **first opened**, when it was **last opened**, and **how many times**.
* You get an alert when it's read, which takes you straight to the message.
* To ask for receipts on every new message, turn on **Settings → Composing → Ask for a read receipt by default**. You can still switch it off per message.
Read receipts rely on the recipient's mail app loading images. Some people block images, so a message can be read without a receipt.
## Common questions
Yes. In **Settings → Reading**, turn off loading remote images. Images stay hidden until you choose to show them.
AI writing uses a small amount of credits, like other AI features.
